VOLUNTEER AT THE PLANT SALE

How the Sale Works

Submit your plant order between September 1 and September 15 using the 2026 order form, then return the completed form by email to plantsale@cnpssd.org.

When you order, you can indicate your preferred pickup windows. After the ordering period closes, we’ll confirm plant availability and schedule your pickup as close to your preferences as possible. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your two-hour pickup window for Friday, October 16 or Saturday, October 17.

When you arrive, check in, review your order, and pay for the plants you’re taking home.

During pickup, you can also talk with native plant experts and shop for seeds, books, merchandise, and other items available on site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What plants will be available for sale?

We will offer more than 350 California native plant species and cultivars from Moosa Creek Nursery, Native West Nursery, El Nativo Growers, and Helix Environmental Services, as well as plants grown by our own CNPS propagators and members and other partners.

The final selection will depend on availability, and some plants may sell out during the ordering period.

The final 2026 plant list and order form will be available before ordering opens on September 1.

Are taxes and fees included in the listed plant prices?

Yes. Sales tax and applicable fees are included in the listed plant prices.

Why is the Plant Sale using a pre-order format this year?

Our traditional one-day Plant Sale takes a large team of volunteers to organize and run. This year, we’re trying a new pre-order format that allows us to offer a wide selection of native plants with a smaller volunteer team while creating a more organized pickup process.

Interested in helping shape future Plant Sales? We’d love to hear from you. Contact us at plantsale@cnpssd.org .

Can I order plants if I am not a CNPS member?

Plant orders are open to CNPS members only. If you’re not currently a member, you can join CNPS for $30 through our Plant Sale membership offer before placing your order.

You can also order plants as a registered Plant Sale volunteer. Learn more about volunteering at the Plant Sale.

Can I change or cancel my order after submitting it?

Yes. You can make changes to your order during the September 1–15 ordering period. After September 15, please contact us at plantsale@cnpssd.org as soon as possible if you need to cancel your order.

What if I can’t pick up my order?

Someone else can pick up and pay for your order on your behalf. Please make sure they have your order information when they arrive.

We are not able to deliver plants or hold orders beyond the Plant Sale pickup dates. All orders must be picked up on Friday, October 16 or Saturday, October 17.

If you cannot arrange pickup, please contact plantsale@cnpssd.org as soon as possible.

How accessible is the pickup location?

The Plant Sale takes place outdoors on compacted earth, which may be uneven, rocky, sandy, or muddy depending on conditions. At least seven accessible parking spaces will be available. An ADA-accessible portable restroom is located on site near the Sikes Adobe Garden, about 50 yards from the pickup area.

Volunteers will be available to help carry plants and assist with orders.

We aim to have at least one Spanish-English bilingual volunteer available on each pickup day, although this cannot be guaranteed.

My favorite native plant isn’t on the list. Where else can I find it?

Plant availability changes from year to year, and some species and cultivars may not be available through our Plant Sale. Calscape is a great place to continue your search: you can look up California native plants, find nurseries near you, and check available nursery inventory.

You can also try these native plant nurseries, sales, and other sources:

For seeds and propagation, visit our Seed & Bulb Store or connect with our Propagation Committee to learn more about growing California native plants.

Another resource to follow is the California Native Horticultural Foundation, founded by Mike Evans of Tree of Life Nursery. The new nonprofit is working to expand native plant horticulture, propagation, education, and access to California native plants in Southern California.

Why does my plant have few or no leaves or flowers at pickup?

Some California native plants naturally go dormant or lose their leaves during the dry season. A plant may look bare—or even appear dead—while still being healthy and alive. As temperatures cool and the seasonal rains return, dormant plants will begin growing again.

Still have a question?

We are happy to help. Email us at plantsale@cnpssd.org with any additional questions. Our Plant Sale team is volunteer-run, so please allow some time for a response.

Our Plant Sale Partners

Our Plant Sale is made possible with support from San Dieguito River Park, local native plant nurseries and growers, and organizations supporting California native horticulture.

We are grateful to all of them.
