Chapter Meeting – Presentation: Confessions of a Native Plant Fanatic, Live By Tom Oberbauer

Presentation
Confessions of a Native Plant Fanatic, Live
By Tom Oberbauer
Over the past two springs, Tom Oberbauer has made a number of mini-expeditions in San Diego County to find amazing landforms and water features during wet rainfall seasons, but especially to look for and find unique native plants. Some are considered sensitive by regulatory agencies, but many are simply unusual and disjunct from their normal ranges. He has written about these explorations in the newsletter over the past year. In addition, there are several plants he observed that he considered to be “must see” that occur outside of San Diego County. The presentation will include photographs from these forays. Tom Oberbauer is a third generation San Diegan. He became interested in the field of biology while growing up in the foothills east of El Cajon. He has been active in the California Native Plant Society since 1975 and has served as Director at Large, Chapter Board Member, and Chapter President multiple times. Besides San Diego County, he has a great interest in Baja California, the California Channel Islands, and the Baja California Islands, and has visited almost all of them. He has a series of videos on the islands on the west coast of Baja California on YouTube under “PLnaturalresources”. Chapter meetings are free and open to the public.
