Miramar Mounds Vernal Pool Tour

The Miramar Mounds is San Diego’s largest remaining area of natural vernal pool, is one of our most important local natural preserves, and is rarely opened to the public.
CNPS-SD volunteer Lee Gordon is creating a volunteer team that will work closely with Marine Corps Air Station Miramar staff to offer small group tours of this private habitat to enable more visitors to experience these rarely seen vernal pools. Prospective volunteers will participate in a brief online orientation and a guided site visit along the 2-mile loop trail, where the volunteer team will receive background info and a list of key native plants to share with visitors. If all goes well, the plan is to establish a more permanent group to take an active role at the Mounds.
There is the possibility of adding a second tour on May 10 or on May 17, depending on interest and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar approval.
