Plant Propagation Zoom: Introduction to tissue culture

April 1 @ 6:30 am - 7:30 pm

Join us for a presentation by Hali’a Eastburn on plant tissue culture and its role in modern plant propagation. Hali’a will discuss the techniques used to propagate plants in vitro, how tissue culture compares to traditional greenhouse methods, and when it is most useful for both commercial production and conservation.

Hali’a Eastburn grew up in Northern California and began her career working in animal welfare and conducting field surveys for endangered species and invasive species monitoring. She later moved to Texas to pursue graduate studies at Texas Christian University, where she researched the population genetics of the carnivorous pitcher plant, Sarracenia alata. She currently directs the tissue culture laboratory at Carnivero, a boutique plant nursery in Austin specializing in carnivorous plants and rare tropical species.
