Field Botany Course Scholarship

Our CNPS San Diego chapter offers a limited number of scholarships each year to cover the full tuition for the NC 0301 Field Botany of San Diego County course, hosted by San Diego State University (SDSU) Global Campus.

This scholarship reflects our commitment to fostering education in botany and conservation, supporting students and professionals who share our passion for protecting biodiversity.

Tuition Coverage: $895 (full course cost).

Reimbursement Timing: Scholarships are awarded as reimbursements after the Course Withdrawal deadline (January 20, 2026) upon confirmation of continued enrollment.

Eligibility: Applicants must first apply and register for the course through SDSU before applying for the scholarship.

Travel Responsibility: Students are responsible for their own travel costs.

To qualify, applicants must:

Demonstrate Financial Need: Tuition cannot be covered by an employer, agency, or benefactor, and individual income must be under $84,900 (2024 median for San Diego). For married couples (filing jointly), the household income must be under $97,000.

Be a First-Time Participant: Applicants must not have completed this course within the past 10 years.

Provide Documentation: Proof of course registration (redacted for privacy) and a W-9 tax form are required after scholarship acceptance.

Applications open when the course is announced on the SDSU Global Campus portal. Applicants must register and pay for the course before submitting a scholarship application.

January 21, 2026: Final day for course registration.

March 10, 2026: Deadline for scholarship applications.

March 11, 2026: Scholarships are awarded during the Chapter Board meeting.

March 12, 2026: Applicants are notified of the decision.

March/April 2026: Tuition reimbursement checks are processed.
