Can I shop the sales floor before 9 a.m.?

The sales floor opens promptly at 9 a.m. To ensure a fair start for everyone, plants may not be selected or reserved before the sale opens. Visitors who arrive early may wait near the entrance until shopping begins.

What accessibility assistance is available?

The Plant Sale takes place outdoors at a historic site with uneven dirt and gravel surfaces. Conditions may be more difficult for wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, or mobility scooters, particularly after rain.

Visitors who need assistance can ask a traffic volunteer or the Volunteer Coordinator near the Welcome Tent to be paired with a volunteer helper.

Some volunteers speak Spanish. Please ask at the Ask an Expert booth for assistance.

What is the refund or exchange policy?

All plant sales are final once plants leave the sale site.

Refunds may be issued on the day of the sale if the plants are returned in good condition.

In very limited cases, we may be able to replace a plant that dies during October 2026 when the cause is a nursery-related disease that was not evident during inspection. Replacements depend on availability and require review of the claim.

Refunds or replacements are not available for plants damaged after purchase, including plants that have dried out, been overwatered, neglected, chewed, toppled, or otherwise improperly cared for.

For questions, plant-care advice, or to submit a claim, contact plantsale@cnpssd.org.

Where do the plants come from?

Our plants come from local native plant nurseries, specialty growers, and the CNPS San Diego Propagation Committee.

Participating growers and the proportion of plants supplied by each source vary from year to year. More information about our 2026 plant sources will be added closer to the sale.

Why do some plants look dormant or less full?

California native plants have natural seasonal growth cycles. In fall, some may be dormant, recently pruned, or less leafy than they are during other times of the year.

This does not mean the plant is unhealthy. Many native plants begin putting on fresh growth as temperatures cool and seasonal rains return.

Why are some plants unavailable or more expensive?

California native plants are increasingly in demand for home gardens, public landscapes, and restoration projects. While this is good news for native habitat, growers cannot always keep up with demand for every species.

Some native plants are also difficult to produce in large quantities, and nurseries can grow only a limited number each season. Higher wholesale costs may therefore affect the price of certain plants at the sale.

We work with our growers to offer the widest possible selection while keeping prices as affordable as possible.

Still have a question?
